Tip #9: It's Okay to Change Airlines

While most travelers will fly on one airline clear through to their final destination, combining flights on different airlines is often more cost effective. For instance, an east coast flight to Hawaii may be cheaper on Delta from New York to Los Angeles with a transfer to Aloha for the flight across the Pacific.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are changing airlines mid-trip, remember that most airlines will transfer your luggage automatically.

What you say is true, but, some airlines benefit from human nature being seduced by the softest option / easiest solution that their wallet can handle! The internet will eventually make it a breeze for us to schedule a trip via interconnected databases - at least, that's what I envisage happening.
